Artist in Residence Classes
Fun and Loose Floral Painting
Join Art Supply Depo owner and landscape artist, Jules Webster, for a fun workshop exploring a wide range of drawing & painting materials using a floral still life as a reference.
The class will begin with a basic drawing lesson and painting demonstration. Jules will explain how to select the best art materials to use to capture each type of flower or plant material. We’ll also complete simple brush technique drills to explain how to make beautiful elegant shapes in paint. Basic color theory will also be discussed.
Students will work through two mixed media artworks in this workshop. Attendees will leave with a small sample and larger finished artwork on paper and an understanding of how to capture the essence of a flower arrangement with various art materials.
Students should bring: A notebook or sketchbook for taking notes. Jules also suggests having a fully charged cell phone to take pictures during class. Students are welcome to bring a water bottle and peanut free snack.

In this workshop, Jules will explain how to select paper, paint, brushes and drawing tools that are appropriate for the finished look you desire. Students will also learn basic painting design - how to modify a reference photo to create a better painting. We’ll learn the importance of understanding value and how to move items around in the reference to make a better painting. Students will work through a series of small mixed media paintings in this workshop.
Students are encouraged to bring their own 8.5x11” photocopy on “regular copy paper” to use as a reference, or may work from references provided by Jules. Please bring one color copy and one black and white copy.
